Chi Solo Film Moves Ahead With Director Destin Daniel Cretton Marvel's Shang

As we get closer to the final film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and as Avengers: Endgame keeps raking in more and more cash at the box office, we can't help but wonder what's coming next in Phase 4. A reliable Marvel insider who provided several key Endgame plot details several months ahead of the film's premiere took to Twitter in the past few weeks to deliver a few details about some of the films that are already in development. Fans have interpreted this to mean Shang-Chi - although the project hasn't officially been announced, there have been extensive rumours and reports, with news of the film expected to arrive at some point after the release of Endgame. In comic lore, he's teamed up with other superhero groups, including the Heroes for Hire, Marvel Knights, X-Men, and the Avengers.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige has said that after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, there will be a full release schedule for the films going forward, giving us a much more solid look at the future of the MCU. Proficient in weapons, marksmanship, various fighting techniques, and considered a strong ally by other Marvel heroes, it's about time that Shang-Chi got a movie of his own.

He's currently filming a third movie with Larson, Just Mercy, which also stars Black Panther villain Michael B. Jordan. Doing the story of an Asian-American hero of Chinese heritage is something that is very intriguing to us. It will be really different and special,” Feige said when asked if Shang-Chi is viewed as a risky project.

Marvel has still given some room in their movie universe for the final reveal of the actual Mandarin. Plans for a Black Panther sequel were revealed a month after the movie's premiere. Marvel's Shang-Chi is fast becoming one of the most anticipated movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it's no wonder that Marvel chief Kevin Feige would want this historic film to get in our eyeballs as soon as possible.

The Black Widow movie will be directed by Cate Shortland, and is currently filming in the UK. With that being the case, expect this to be the first Marvel Phase 4 New MCU Leak Reportedly Reveals Marvel's Entire Phase 4 Slate movie, which means it will likely take that May 1, 2020 release date. To atone for his mistake Shang-Chi joined Nayland Smith in his battle to bring down his Fu Manchu's global network of assassins, the Si-Fan.

In December 2018, word leaked that Marvel has hired Wonder Woman 1984 writer Dave Callaham to do the screenplay for the Shang-Chi movie, with the intent of hiring a director of Asian descent, and crafting a film with a cultural impact similar to that of Black Panther.

The character was likely meant as a cash-in on the '70s movie trend of Asian kung-fu cinema, but Shang-Chi lasted way beyond that initial fad. The project was first announced last December, with reports saying it was top priority for Marvel to find an Asian or Asian-American director for the movie.
